Last week we have all of sudden the sizes of the databases have grown leading the disk space comes down to nil.

We have production server which is backed up overnight and through restoration onto another Reporting server all the databases were restored.

All the databases on the reporting as well as Production servers were 10 % Unrestricted Growth for MDF and 10 % Restricted Growth for LDF, there is no other change in the databases properties.

Can anyone explain why the databases have grown abruptly.

Thanks in advance.

Is it the log file(s) or the data file(s) that have grown? Have you had any large operations running against your database lately? Rebuilding of indexes, large inserts/updates etc? It doesn't just grow by itself so something must have happened to it.

Thanks. Both MDF and LDF have grown almost 200 percent and later we have shrank them.

There is no such evidence of running any DML operation and no Reindex process.

Is there any other clue that I can verify Please.

Thanks again.

One time our database grew big due to replication, even after removing replication jobs DB was still replicating data so Log file grew big. After completely removing replication then we were able to shrink log file.

One more thing do you have mirroring on this database?

We had same issue with one DB , which used to grow big once in a while due to transaction acivity, so we have moved mdf files to another big drive.

Thanks so far with the possibilities in growing big DB's.

We dont have replication, mirroring problems, I have queried with last sessions but no evidence of any one who does any such big transaction.

Still I need Experts to involve here please - REQUEST
