Hi,I want to build a Web Application for the HR team. For start I want to keep the cost minimal.I was thinking of using the SQL Server 2008 Express. I have never used it for Web App, used it only for stand alone system. I was reading an article that said there is a limitation of 1 CPU socket. I am not sure what does this mean. I want to know if SQL Express edition is suitable for Web Application. How about using MS Access as database. I have to do a proposal. Any information will help. RegardsVAishak |

I cannot see any value in using access over SQL.The limitation for sql express varies by version. SQL Express 2008 is limited to 1 cpu socket meaning single dual trip and quad corp cpu's count as 1.(allowing you to use all 4 cores on quadcores)There is also a database size limitation, and a maximum memory limitation. YOu can find these on the microsoft website.1cpu is more than enough for the vast majority of websites. In my experience you can get dozens of pages per second from 1 cpu. With that kind of traffic it should be easy to justify beefy hardware and SQL cpu licenses. |
