Hi,
I am trying to install the SQL Server 2008 that comes with my Vista computer. I went to the start menu -> all programs... Then the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 folder. I selected Configuration Tools subfolder and then "SQL Server Installation"

From there I hit the installation button. Then it asks me to input an installation folder, and when I enter "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server" it says "Not a valid installation folder."

Then I'm stumped. I'd love to find out how to install this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the Best,
GordonG

Peso,

The space is there, I just mistyped it... No mater what directory I choose it gives me the same exact error. Upon googling further I found someone else who is having the same problem. But no solution yet.

Which is?
SQL Server Express or the 180-day free version of Enterprise Edition?

Does no one have any idea about this? If not, where do you think I could go to get assistance? Thanks.

Make sure you "Run As Administrator" as Vista protects the Program Files directory. I dont know if this will work, just a thought.

So I still have not been able to get it to install. Same error. If you don't know how to help me, perhaps someone here could point me to a place where I can get some help?

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Yes, I have the service pack. I got the installation to work by asking on msdn.com. They directed me to an online installation.

for any seekers that find this thread here's the thread on msdn.com: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/b8086e0e-5787-4ab7-acff-9ef758a6b9e8

Thanks for the help.
