I have installed SQL 2008 standard edition on a server. I have installed the management studio on my XP Pro machine. When I try to connect to the dataengine I get an error that says that the server can not be found (error 53). Why does MS make things harder to get started with every release? Thanks. |

What are you trying to connect to.You can not connect from SSMS 2008 to Reporting Services of earlier versions. Other than that, I have been using 2008 for months now and haven't had any problems. |

Have you enabled remote logins for this server? Its not turned on by default, making accessing it from another machine impossible. And while you're there, you might want to check that both SQL logins and Windows authentication is enabled if you're going to be logging on using SQL logins. |
