Does Microsoft still support SQL Server 6.5? I couldn't find an official statement saying they do not.

Not officially but they do have a large customer base of sensible companies that still appreciate that it is a robust platform so usually do help. If you have to tell the boss that you are using a supported platform then you will have to migrate (probably to 2000 if you do it slowly).

This is not entirely correct. SQL 6.5 no longer has CODE support. This means there will be no more service packs, nor will there be any more Hotfixes. However, the product is still supported. You can call Product Support Services for SQL 4.x, and they will give a best effort support, however if it is a NEW problem, they will only offer workarounds, in which some cases that might be an upgrade to 7.0 or 2000.
