Does anyone use GIS (Geographical Information Systems) in SQL Server (or any other database)?

I'm currently looking into what is available and I know that SQL Server 2008 has some elements of the functionality for this. Oracle is probably too expensive for our needs. The current favorite seems to be Postgres.

If you do use it what sort of broad functionality do you make use of?

Thanks

steve

Peso do you use SQL server 2008 for this and if so what did you use before?

Do you make use of polygons and points in polygons and all that sort of thing?

My current employer is still on SQL Server 2000.
So I use the Haversine formulas.

We are a long way from SQL Server 2008. My employer will install SQL Server 2005 first.
