This site is currently down for maintenance. Currently we are repairing database replication.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and ask you to try again later. Thank you for your patience.

Actually, I followed a link from google to that site earlier this morning. I was researching a SQL error (I really do that before posting questions on here... honest) and got that error.

I found it amusing.

Hey, if I asked even 20% of my total SQL questions on this board, you folks would think I was a nut.

Most of my problems I solve through google.

They still display the same welcome message...
I wonder if it would be acceptable [or even possible] for SQLTeam to be down more than 14 hours?

dbf has had some major problems in the past. They have lost data (unrecoverable), had web pages displaying the SQL that was causing errors, intermittent poor performance (look like deadlocks on the BE). It has been a while since it went down but 16 hours is unbelievable. Given the board's subject it is a joke.

If we're down for more than a month I'll give you back all the money you paid to join the site!

On a serious note, I don't really have an acceptable amount of downtime. We just try to not be down very often.

dbforums runs on MySQL. Does MySQL even have replication? I don't think so...

Yeah - it does: http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=mysql+replication&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
I think I remember it mentioned on the twitter blog recently.

Yeah - still pretty lukewarm on it. The problem is that most people think you are interested that they are about to do some hoovering vacuuming or have a cup of tea. One guy sends out a tweet to say he is online. It's asynchronous FFS! So I am fairly ruthless on who I follow. Despite that, about 90% of the stuff I get through is inane BS.

There are some decent MVPs on there and I've followed some of their tweets to their blogs etc...which I've then subscribed to on RSS which then disposes of any reason to follow them.

Anyhoo - a couple of my favourite twitterers:
http://twitter.com/bollocks - Some very profound management utterances
http://twitter.com/MarsPhoenix - The Mars Phoenix lander. The twittering is done in first person. Pretty cool when it found ice.
http://twitter.com/PaulNielsen - Decent density of informational tweets rather than crap.

EDIT - Americanised my post....the shame

I'm not even sure what that means but I imagine it is another unprovoked assault.
