I have set up log shipping from a Primary to a Secondary Server using LiteSpeed. This is all well and working.

I also want to have a full daily backup to transfer to a tertiary server that is physically distant (if we have to fall back to the tertiary server the very least of our problems is that the data is 24hrs out of date rather than 10mins, also we currently have only 2 LiteSpeed licences so configuring it as another secondary is not an option).

From where do I take this full backup? If I take it from the Primary will it interfer with the log shipping? Can I take it from the Secondary even though it is in a permenantly restoring state? Or should I leave it a read-only state to take the full backup from?

Any other suggestions?

NOTE: This is SQL 2000 NOT 2005!

Only transaction log backups outside of the log shipping plan break log shipping if you don't manually apply them. So full backups are fine on the primary server.

If your secondary database is in the standby state, then you can also take a full backup there.
