I downloaded the free version of MySQL, and the Standard GUI for it. Just curious more than anything what any of you may know about it, or comments you are willing to offer. I can tell it's no MS SQL, but I used it last night to do some Ash Analysis equations, and seems to be fairly decent. |

I work for a coal company, and one of the things a customer needs to know about the coal is it'ash content. We have a ash analyzer that gives us base numbers to calculate the ash content the way customer wants to see it. eg.. lbs Ash per million btu. |

Oho. I thought the 'Ash' in the name is just for 'beauty'. |

Okay, maybe I get flamed for this, but I like MySQL!Has some nice features, lacks some other important ones.I wouldn't use it for mission critical applications. Only for private stuff. And, most important to me, ISP's offering MySQL support are that much cheaper here in Germany than ISP's offering SQL Server support. In addition to this, they took over http://www.sapdb.org , which is a very good dbms and branded it something like MaxDB. So I think one could expect a nice competition in the long-runJust my $0.02 cents Cheers,Frank |

D*mn, one cup of coffee really isn't enough for posting! The standard GUI isn't really worth having a look at !!! Seems to be very buggy and unstable. My personal favorite is http://mysqlfront.venturemedia.de/ for Windows and http://www.phpmyadmin.net/ for linux.Cheers,Frank |
