Our IT team uses Veeam (8.0) to handle our database backups and log truncation and recently our they changed the backups from running under their admin account to a Veeam service account.

After that we started getting errors saying the logs weren't truncated due to lack of permissions.

IT and Veeam's answer is to add the service account as a sysadmin to the Server->Security->Logins which works, but it seems like way more access than necessary just to do backups and restores. (http://www.veeam.com/kb1746)

Is there a way to create a role that we could assign to the Veeam account that can do full backups, truncate the logs, and do restores that isn't a sysadmin?

Adding it as backupadmin on all the affected databases should be enough permission.
