Hi Guys,

New to forums so sorry if I don't get the rules right....

I usually purchase processor licenses for my SQL Servers (my company has 15k employees. I have to purchase a single license now and only have 3 users.

My question is if I buy the SQL license does that include any user cals? Or do I have to purchase 3 user CALS as well. I know I have to have 3 I just don't know if the license covers any users.

You'd choose CALs or a processor license, not both. There's no included license option, you have to select it when you purchase.

If you go the CAL way you have to purchase the license plus CALS. I want to know if the license includes any CALS. Forgot the processor license.

Hmmm. Licensing isn't my strong point, but from what I read the license types were either processor OR CAL. The difference was licensing the server (processor) for any number of users, vs. licensing the users (CAL) for any number of servers. CALs are cheaper for a limited number of users, but are not valid if your server will be used for web-based apps or other anonymous user scenarios.
