In SQL Server Mirroring, When a principal system is Shut down, the another system(Mirror System) is not acting as a principal system, when we request a connection to that SQL Server the connection cannot be established.
But when we failover the Principal Mirror manually by clicking on failover button, its working fine.
I need the idea to detect the failure of the Principal system.
or
when the principal gets turned off,the mirror system should act as Principal.
Plz help me.

Thanks,
Narender.

You need a witness server for automatic failover. Without a witness, you're limited to manual failover only.
