Afternoon,

I am trying to restore a database. I can see the contents of the backup set yet when I try to run it with replace, on a test database, I get the message
system.data.sqlclient.sqlerror: cannot find file id 16 on device 'd:\sqlbackups\productionbackup'

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Laura

What's the exact restore statement you're running?

RESTORE DATABASE [Inventory]
FROM DISK = 'D:\SQLBackups\ProductionBackup' WITH FILE = 16,
RECOVERY,
NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 10
GO

And the backup has 16 or more backup sets in it?

What does RESTORE HEADERONLY return?

16 is not listed. However I can see it in management studio. Why is that?

I did just restore it from a later backup but I want to figure out what happened.

Thanks

No idea. Can't see and don't have the backup file to play with. But that's why the restore fails, the file you're specifying doesn't exist.
