Hi everyone,This is for 2008 R2.I installed 2008 R2 64 bit onto a Windows 2003 server.I chose Windows authentication. It seems that users that are in the local Administrators group are NOT automatically able to access SQL Server. But, if I remember correctly, with Mixed Mode authentication, anyone added to the Administrators group has the sysadmin role by default. Is this correct? Thanks, John |

That was true SQL 2005 SP1 and earlier. In 2005 SP2 the security was tightened so that local admin != sysadmin. Now if you want someone to be admin, you have to specify it, it doesn't happen by default, which is a very good thing for security.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP |

Thanks, GilaMonster. I agree, a long-needed enhancement. |
