Anyone know what is the average number of tables for an sql server database used for a large application like online banking ? About how many MBs of data is that ?

This is not something that can be answered. Number of tables is dependent on your design. Designs are typically proprietary or you're purchasing a COTS package. Size of database is dependent on so many things such as indexes, design, retention, etc.

It depends. It really does.

Depends on the business, the database design, the requirements, etc, etc, etc.
