When I run sp_who2 I can see numerous sleeping connections that are no longer doing anything and have been inactive for over an hour. Some of them have have a high CPUTime and DiskIO.Are these connections still hogging some system resources, such as CPU and memory? Thanks |

As opening and closing a connection is a costly process so some applications keeps a connection open for reuse. Sleeping mean a connection was open and not closed and now its inactive and can be used later on. So don't worry about these sleeping connections. Why DBAs use WhoIsActive instead of sp_who and sp_who2... http://connectsql.blogspot.com/2011/05/sql-server-spwhoisactive-must-tool-for.html |
