can't start database mirroring

can't start database mirroring

Hi All,

I am trying to conifigure database mirroring on 2 vms with SQL Server 2008 R2 standerd edition.
after configuring it when i click on start mirroring its giving error as
"The server network address "TCP://Mirror.testdomain.com:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"

How to resolve this one.

Telnet to the ports from both sides to verify they are open.

1.Open network connection
2.Right click on local area connection and click properties
3.click advance tab
4.click settings
5.click exceptions
6.click on button add port
7.Give name Ex:mirror
8.Port number 5022
9.and Click OK OK two time

I telnet via a cmd window: telnet ServerName PortNumber

If it gives you a blank screen after you hit enter, then that's good it means it's open. If it gives you an error, well you're going to have to fix that in order for mirroring to work.

Thanks Tara,

Yes its working when i telnet from my XP client machine to that server.
but when i login in to Server machine and telnet local its saying
"'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."

My server is installed with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

Plz guide me..

Hey I got this one.
In windows server 2008 R2 by default it was not added.
I added this like
Server Management ==> Add Features ==> Telnet Client.

But Still i am unable to configure mirroring.

Testing telnet from your client machine is not what we need to test.

You'll need to get telnet installed in order to do this test. It's not installed by default on Win2k8. It doesn't require a reboot, but it does take a few minutes to complete.

Tara I did this process.
Installed Telnet client and server in my server.
still same error.

If you are getting an error in the telnet client, then you've got a network/firewall issue.
