This SQL Server DBA is responsible for the administration and support of various database servers for both production and development environments. This also includes 24/7 on-call support for production systems.. Essential responsibilities include:• Installation, Configuration and Upgrading of SQL Server Software 2000/2005/2008 and related software products• Respond to Service Now Tickets• Develop and implement archiving, backup and recovery strategies• Responsible for database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, high-availability strategies with SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 in a 24x7x365 production environment• Interact with application owners/developers and/or it technical staff members• Maintenance of SQL Servers• Participation in Mock Disaster Recovery drills.• Provide Guidance to other DBAs and other IT Technical Staff Members• Carry blackberry and provide 24X7 Support• On Call Schedule participationRequirements:• 5yrs SQL Server experience installing and configuring with SQL Server 2000/2005• Experience with SQL Server 2008• Maintain and support multiple Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 environments• Good user knowledge of the Windows 2000/2003/2008 platforms• Experience with Enterprise Manager and Enterprise Server Management Studio

Maybe where you work, but a number of places I've known have either a specific Data Architect position, or the developers design everything. A DBA may get involved in design if there's no data architect and the developers actually listen to him/her, but it's rarely part of their job description anymore. And if a shop actually thinks to have a Data Architect, it's a fairly expensive consultant, and it's after 1 or more serious problems have occurred that devs cannot solve. |
