| In the next few months/years we will be looking to replace the content management system we use for our website. I would be interested to know which if any people here make use of.A little background. We currently have a number of content authors, their content is then passed to our web authors who can approve it which will make it appear on the website. We also have a number of custom aspx forms that integrate into other systems. In addition we have a seperate forms package which makes calls to various web services, we would certainly consider any cms that could also perform this role. Finally we have an RSS and a Twitter feed and a small number of videos that we host. All this is pretty standard stuff I think, anything else would generally be considered a bonus. The one I can see causing most issues is the custom forms which I guess may have to be recoded - no pain, no gain. steve-----------I used to think I wasn't a morning person but it never got better in the afternoon |

| I wander out and have a look periodically, but each time I don't really find anything that offers a great deal. The really popular names seem to be very superficial to me (but maybe that is actually just what 99% of companies need for CMS)We have an in-house system (not my domain, but the Web Design side uses it). They keep on looking at off the shelf stuff so they can discontinue the support of their own stuff, or rein it back [e.g. if they moved to open-source]. That move hasn't happened ...Our eCommerce stuff has inbuilt CMS too. If we are planning a re-branding we want to be able to emarbgo all those changes for a given date, and if any content is changed prior to that (i.e. content that will also change when the embargo content is released) those changes must be re-made, or incorporated, into the embargo'd release-version) - otherwise we just get a lot of "WTF did my content go" support issues! |

Thanks Kristen. I doubt rebranding type excercises are an issue here - I've certainly not seen one in the last three years, though the embargo of content is, it tends to be on a much smaller scale, often single pages. I agree with you about the really big names, though I guess any open source type app can be modified, it would then be a matter of how much work was needed. The other side of it of course is that the enterprise CMS seem far too "feature rich" for our requirements.Brett the one we currently have is a 3rd party one and I am certain we will go with another 3rd party one for a variety of reasons. In truth we don't need anything particularly sophisticated (doesn't everyone say that  ) for the large part, as long as we can somehow integrate our own forms and manage workflow, including the delayed release type scenario that Kristen mentioned. I don't really have a short list yet we are still in the earliest stages, though I have had a look around, it's not even clear yet that we have funding, though the powers that be accept the need to change. One of those that appeals is http://www.jadu.co.uk/ which I think is fairly new.I suspect that in these austere times it will come down to the cost of support.-----------I used to think I wasn't a morning person but it never got better in the afternoon |
