I am looking to find the Best Practice for deploying SQL Services. I am thinking about creating a machine for each service. We can easily setup a vm for analsys, reporting, and databases to be on seperate servers. I want to know is this a good or bad idea. I understand the network congestion could be a factor but would like to hear other suggestion or recommendations before implementing this. My concern is if we have several services on a single machine and a problem arises it may be harder to find the problem. Appreciate any input. Thanx

Yes it's a good idea to separate them out and actually is the best practice, but it will mean you have to purchase additional licenses. AS and RS are only free if they are on the database server (which has to be licensed no matter what).

It depends on your business requirements. Please review the MS site for the features and differences between the two editions.

It is not something I can answer given the information in this topic.
