Is the relational database dying?http://www.cbsolution.net/roller/ontarget/entry/databases_relational_vs_object_vs]here

The secondary question being - has anyone had any experience of object or graph databases?

no, it's not. doc and graph db's are just solving a different problem. they have their problems too.

for my next pet project i'll use an doc db. i'll go with the .Net RavenDB.
if i had to choose among other i'd use MongoDB.
I know people that have 100 Gb MongoDb setups without problems.

Mongo sounds like a Swedish slang expression which roughly can be translated into the english word retarded.

I wonder if that is why the big, dumb guy in Blazing Saddles is named Mongo...

"Such rules can be conveniently implemented and enforced through API, quite better than using relational model."
It always blows my mind to here people claim this. You are going to repeat the same rules in each and every API that accesses the data? How is this preferable to enforcing them once, as close to the data as possible?
Its unbelievable how short-sighted developers get when it comes to database design.

There's irony here, and I like it.
