Hi,I have a specific question. When I looked up the sub forums, I really did not know into which of the SQL team's forums it should go, so here it is... I've been asked to provide "work estimates" for setting up SQL 2005 cluster on two 32 bit Windows 2003 servers. The agreement is that the customer will setup Windows 2003 boxes with all the pre-requisites and my team would do the cluster installation. Now the big question. What is the approximate time taken to complete the SQL cluster installation activity and what are the standard charges in US$ to complete this activity? I have never given work estimates before so this is my first step. Please advise at your earliest convenience. Thank you! |

Double? Surely halve it?Then get some poor sod to work every hour of the day to get it working in time..To the OP - If you don't klnow how long it is likely to take, speak to the people that are gooing to be doing the physical work and they will tell you. |

For the SQL part, I would need 4-8 hours to complete the work. I do SQL installations on clusters a lot though, so make sure to add in some buffer if that is not your area of expertise. For the cluster part, I think our server admins require about a week to complete everything. They buffer in some time though for the SAN team to do their work too.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog"Let's begin with the premise that everything you've done up until this point is wrong." |

Not quite, but surely that how 90% of projects go? Thats why none of them ever finish on time, over budget and way past the deadline.. |

Brett's projects don't. He's working on exponential pricing (coupled with being able to actually do the next project in half-the-time of the previous one, I reckon he's on a winner!) |

His only problem will be the < 3 millisecond timing issue. He will start finding it difficult to charge enough. |
