I'm looking to get savvy in DB design...

I work for an engineering corporation, so the sales examples that most DB books have are completely lost on me...

My main functions are:
  • Engineering issue management and project management
  • Management visibility... Dashboards, workflow, etc..


What books out there are better for those specific designs?

Data modelling skills are pretty generic. They shouldn't generally be tied to any one business domain.

Among my favourite books are:
Information Modeling and Relational Databases by Terry Halpin
Practical Issues in Database Management by Fabian Pascal
