Hi,I just need to find out, if I purchase a SQL Server with 5 CALs, does that mean 5 clients or 5 connections? E.g.,If my application makes 2 concurrent connections to the database from the same PC, does that "use up" 2 of the 5 license? |

5 clients. A single client may make multiple connections without using up additional licenses. |

There are user cals and device cals. With a user CAL any user can use multiple devices to connect and access SQL services. So someone with two workstations, a PDA, and a laptop only needs one CAL if you purchase user cals. With a device CAL each device that any user uses only needs a single CAL so if you have multiple people who use a single workstation then you would only need to purchase a single device CAL for each workstation and not each user.In either case the number of actual connections established doesn't matter. If a single device or a single user makes 100 connections it's still only one CAL. |
