after running SELECT @@VERSION, i get the following result:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.4035.00 (Intel X86) Nov 24 2008 13:01:59 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

however when I run en_sql_server_2005_sp3_x86.exe (AKA Service Pack 3) ...the dialog says I'm already "upgraded" for each of the components.

Can I force a rollback to SP2 somehow???
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition')
by the way, build 4035 is SP3

why do you want to roll back? the "service pack 2" in the output is windows service pack, not SQL service pack

You are missing the critical SQL hotfix that was released in early October.
