When you create a new database it is suggested to place log and data files on a separate drive.I have an instance of SQL 2005 with 2 drives – the C and D driveIs it ok to have the data on the D drive and use the C drive for the log files?Or is it important to have 3rd drive (e.g. E drive) for the log files?i.e will there be contention having logs on C drive? Thanks |

Is the Windows OS on C?Is this your local machine or a server? What is the expected usage of the SQL Server? |

Windows OS is on C.ServerExpected Usage - not sure how best to explain. The server will see 4 reads to every write. and will grow .4gb per week |

I'd seriously recommend adding another drive...you should have the os, logs and data all on different drives for best performance. And if you're expecting 400MB growth on a weekly basis I'm sure you can afford some extra disks...- Lumbago |
