I recently installed SQL Server 2008 and somehow made a mess of it.

When I try to install certain items through the WPI it tells me that SQL is required and I don't appear to have it installed on my machine. If I knew exactly what I was doing I wouldn't be having this problem in the first place, but it appears to me that I do have it installed. In other instances when I try to connect like through visual webdev, I get an error that says something along the lines of "a network related or instance-specific error occurred and that the server was not found or is not accessible."

No clue what I did wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you open Management Studio and connect to your instance?

Can you see the SQL Server Configuration Manager (In Configuration Tools under the SQL Server group in Windows)? Are the services Started?

We need more information to be able to help you.
