I need to build a new database on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The predicted database size is 10GB and there will only be 3 clients. The whole thing is on a stand-alone network with the server and two client PCs. Can I use SQL Server 2008 Standard Workgroup Edition? Is there a better choice? |

I would advice you to call Microsoft, we had a similar problem and purchased MS SQL standard edition for small businesses with 5cal lic, and found out we purchased the wrong thing. When I tried to return the software, the next day the vendor refused to take it back, because we had opened the software and the rep i spoke to in their reading office, said " I should try to sell my rotten apples in a car boot sale"their number is 0870 6010100But from your description, I think the workgroup edition for small businesses with 5 CAL license would be recommended. |

From my little understanding, I know there are basically two types of purchases.1. Small office server clients, which sounds like your case2. Web hosting clients ( which was our case )If option 1 is your case, ...I would advice you to go for the 5CAL lic, which is far cheaper than the 10 CAL, if option 1 is recommended by them.we purchased, the server software, from a company called ecostsoftware.com amongst the list of UK suppliers, they seemed to be the cheapest But later had to signup for the MS VL, (Volume licensing), which was what we really need. |
