Installed SQL (w/SP2) on VISTA, but Reporting Services did not install (probably because IIS may not have been running). In order to add Reporting Services do I just run Setup again, or must I remove SQL and start from scratch, making sure IIS is running?

There is a KB article stating what settings in IIS need to be enabled(checked), prior to doing the installation. I dont have the article number at my finger tips.
There are also other items that need to be set, in IIS manager, and again, I am in the office and have those at home.
I just did this installation two months ago on my home PC that runs Vista. Note, SSRS will not install on a Vista Home Premium OS. The check box for this component is greyed out during installation.
It is very frustrating, because the KB article does not identify these other items. Using the above additional documents, it was a successful installation.
All this extra gyrating according to one piece I read on this, has to do with IIS and not Vista and SSRS.

In IIS Manager, you also have to enable two setting. In IIS Manager, click on Handler Mappings, then select "Edit Feature". make sure that Read and Script are enabled.
Click OK.
Close IIS Manager.

On the MSDN Message forums for SQL Server 2005, I would estimate there are 100s of thousands of posts on this topic, vituperating and lambasting Microsoft for developing software such as SSRS that does not install on their own operating system.

One would think Microsoft would develop software that installs on their own operating systems, expecially the OS they are trying to convince "everyone" to migrate to.
We are glad to help. Installing sql server 2005 and reporting services on a vista machine is a nightmare.
