I have several self managed dedicated CoLo servers running SQL 2008 Express. I'm a developer not a server IT guy, so I'm thinking of switching over to managed hosting (RellerChoice.com to be precise)They offer VPS at a fraction of dedicated server price.but SQL and VPS?... maybe I'm just old fashion but my gut doesn't sit rightAny thoughts? |

Hi.I assume they run sql server instances on a dedicated sql server...That means you will connect to the sql server from your VPS remotely, additionally many providers run sql server 2008 standard edition...Thanks, VadymMCITP DBA 2005/2008Chief DBA at http://www.db-staff.com |

Vadym,It would be several dedicated VPS machines each with their own SQL 2008 Express installed. The physical machines would ambiguous to however the host has them configured. http://www.resellerchoice.com/VirtualServers-Hyper-V/Windows-VPS-Servers.aspxI love the idea of using VPS for the websites. They're all .Net and static pages, but it's the SQL Database part that I'm uncertain about.thanks, Bill |

We also use resellerchoice, I went with 3 vps server setup Email, SQL and IIS, works great.I will upgrade at some point to a dedicated SQL box but the vps is working just fine.Installing Express SQL on the VPS servers with IIS will work, but depending on the budget you may want to move it off. Thanks,RonLiveChatAgent |
