| I've been looking at the backup compression feature in sql 2008. When performing a backup, you have the option to use compression or not use compression. The backup compression appears to work really well. Is there a reason or situation where you would not want to use backup compression when doing a backup? |

| The only gotcha that I've seen with compression so far is that there is a cost in processing overhead when compressing the back up. If you have multiple databases on the same server you should be cautious about when you kick the backup off. Otherwise, I agree, very little downside.Mike"oh, that monkey is going to pay" |

| Backup compression requires SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition, so it may not be worth the additional cost for just this feature.You can buy third-pary backup compression utilities that would probably be cheaper if you do not require other SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition features.CODO ERGO SUM |
