Hi Gurus,

I am really new to this all...

Management wants me to re-install our entire 6-instance cluster onto another MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise license key.

Is there documentation on how to do this... from the following perspective:

1) performing the uninstallation....
2) somehow keeping the current configuration (databases, log-ins, etc) of each of the instances.
3) after the installation of the new license, these old configurations can be applied to the new instances.

Thanks in advance,

rmiao

Why reinstall sql? If you really want to do this, you should:

1. backup all system dbs and user dbs on all instances, then remove sql in control panel -> add/remove applications.
2. install sql instances and restore dbs from backup. You can reattach user dbs after restoring system dbs if user db files are still available.

Thanks for the response. I have a couple questions:

1.) What is my option other than performing the re-install?

2.) Silly one --> If i did do the re-install, lets say I backup all the system and user databases with instance "CLUST_A". Then I remove the instance, and then put in the new SQL Enterprise DVD in and install again "CLUST_A", same resource group everything... would I be able to restore the system databases over the existing ones? Is it that easy?
Forgive my ignorance on this matter... But that is why I am here in the first place...

Thanks in advance...

1. depends. I never enter license key when install sql since we have corp licenses.
2. yes, as easy as that.
