| We already have a Dell server 2 CPU , 2 GB ram and an instance of SQL 2000 installed. Now I plan to have a clustering by adding 1 more server and upgrading the SQL 2000 to SQL 2k5 . I have following questions . 1. Can I have a different make server say IBM or HP with similar CPU / memory . 2. Now dual core/ quad core servers are coming . R dual core really equivalent to 2 cpu OR quad core erally equivalent to 4 CPU . Any practical insight / guidance of the user will be very much helpful .3. What about the SQL licensing for SQL 2k5 . I believe onnly 1 CPU license will be required , if I have a single quad core CPU. 4. Can the mirror have lesser memory than primary as it has no real application . We may accept a degrade a performance during a failover period .5. I understand some proprietory hardware is required for clustering . What is it . What is really the difference. What we should ask the vendor specifcally (of couse besides clustering requirement) .6. If I wish to have 2 instances of SQL 2005 , I can have active-active configuration as a limited load balancing strategy . |

| 1. No, need same kind of hardware in the cluster.2. Not really since multiple cores share internal bus, you can find details from server vendor.3. Yes.4. Yes.5. Check Microsoft's cluster HAL, server vendor should have info for you.6. Possible if you have read only db on them. |
