I just installed the SSMS for 2005 Express and cannot view any SQL Server Logs. I see Current and Archive #1,#2 etc but the right pane is blank.

I assume you are using the logviewer in SSMS.

did you check the box next to "current", etc in the left hand tree?

There is no expandable + next to current. It is next to "SQL Server Logs" which is expanded to show the current object but not what is in the current log.

No check mark or any control except right click properties with Refresh only.

Do you have to double-click the log to view?

The Log Viewer is not supported in Management Studio Express. You will need to open the logs from Windows Explorer by going to the directory where they reside, typcially in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG with allowances for different instance IDs.

Hi Mike,

What's the point of turning people off SQL Server when they have a problem - e.g. connection problems - by hamstringing the ui? Is that really what's wanted at Microsoft?
