What do you think of this proposed NJ law to making anonymous posting on forums illegal:http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2006/Bills/A1500/1327_I1.HTM |

Sounds like a typical case of legislative ignorance to me. |

I bet the representative sponsoring that bill had derogratory things said about him in online forums and is bitter about it. |

Two things... this would be very difficult to police and enforce considering (whether they like it or not) New Jersey doesn't own the Internet. New Jersey can't really tell a business based in Illinois to disallow anonymous postings because it offends some NJ legislator. It kind of gets into the realm of what China has done with restricting what sites are accessible from within their boundaries. The US government ran into similar issues with regards to pornography legislation.Second, I think this would most likely be ruled unconstitutional as it likely violates the First Ammendment. Though that's speculation since I'm too lazy to read the whole thing and since the makeup of the courts has changed recently.~Travis |

jhermiz: ISPs are not required to reveal indentity. In addition you can connect through a proxy before posting on the forums, when they try and trace the IP back to you they might get hung up in say... China?I'm not completely sure how NJ is going to enforce this unless the poster and the website are both in NJ |

It's what they do best. That's a universal truth (and demonstrably not libelous)Anon |
