Graz et al,

Instead of displaying the SQL timeout expired when a search of the forums is overly generic, you should display a friendly web message such as "Please refine your search criteria".

Yes, it probably should be fixed. The problem is that I'd have to modify packaged software which I'd really prefer not to do. I've been meaning to archive some of the topics. I'll try to get to that over the holidays. That should fix most of the search issues.

Actually it the VBScript error that lazerath is seeing (rather than, say, a customisable page).

I find that if I do a search WITHOUT a time constraint it only works if the current-time is in the small hours.

Constraining by Date (120 days or 1 year), or Forum, seems to fix the problem.

Even on weird, and presumably rarely occuring, words/phrases its still timing out. I wonder if there is some additional logic that can be employeed to improve this (but I am sure that you put plenty of time into this, so it is probably optimum - I'm just reporting the facts as I think I see them)

I just want to say I noticed the same problem... I just didn't care enough to tell you I almost always search the last few days

"I just didn't care enough to tell you"

Indeed, me too. I'm happy to work around it.

I also notice a slow-down quite often - well, more like a "stall" really. I keep "active topics" open in a window, and RightClick+OpenInNewWindow. Some times it takes many seconds to open. When that happens if I switch back to original window and RightClick+OpenInNewWindow one, or several, other links they all open at the same time - i.e. after a delay.

Its like something is blocking on the SQL box.

Just in case its of interest, I'm not bothered, as such.
