Does anyone else use this for development? I have found this to be very useful tool for development work. I have a windows 2003 server VPC on my windows XP desktop and I do all my development within it using SQL server, Visual Studio etc I love that I dont have to slow up my windows XP install with tonnes of development software that slows my pc down no end and i love being able to transfer the entire virtual pc image over to my laptop and have the exact same environment. I also installed umpteen web browsers & emulators and have installed all the older operating systems for when one of my colleagues has a problem on a win98 machine that i just cannot mirror on my XP machine. I have found it to be extremely stable aswell - although one downside is that it is perhaps not quite as "snappy" as a true operating system due to the virtual disk overheads but perfectly useable. Im not the world greatest microsoft fan and they aquired the source from connectix (i think?) - but thumbs up!

Me too!! I use Virtual PC to test for browser compatibility on multiple platforms and browsers. But I just hate the fact that disk access is so slow even with oodles of RAM! But it is a fantastic product nevertheless, and a real bargain too. Too bad it can't emulate a Mac

Have you seen VMWare?

I use it for beta stuff.
Yukon and .net stuff is all under it.

Also saves a lot of space because the folder it uses grows as necessary - better than reserving a partition.

Had a problem with it though. I have an install folder which I stick all the install things in. Shared it with a virtual pc. Installed loads and it was OK. Then I stuffed loads more stuff into the folder and virtual pc gets an error. Don't know if it's because the size changed and I need to unshare and share again or if it's because there is a limit on the size of the shared folder.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

If anyone just wants to run legacy IE browsers, without going to the trouble of installing Virtual PC, there's an article at:
http://www.insert-title.com/web_design/?page=articles/dev/multi_IE

or just download pre-prepared zip files from:
