I had problems in the past installing sql server when there were previous sql express editions previously installed so I'm trying to avoid those now. I've read plenty of posts that SEEM to say sql server 2008 developer 64 can be installed on win7 home premium, you would think so anyway. Here's what I have already installed:first I had installed visual basic 2008 express, which evidently installed some pieces or components of sql server 2008 because they have the same install date as the vb express,(these are listed in add/remove pgms) 2008, 2008 browser, 2008 management objects, 2008 native client, 2008 setup support filesHowever, the above 'installed programs' don't show up in my run programs???? what shows up there is: 2008/configuration tools/sql server configuration manager + sql server error and usage reporting + sql server installation serverI hope somebody can follow this because it isn't making a lot sense to me right now. what is the point and purpose of all those sql installed programs and why is the list of what is available to run so different from the list of the installed programs? Now I have purchased visual studio 2008 std edition (and installed it) and it came with sql server 2008 developer both 32 + 64 bit, I would like to install either the 32 or 64 so I can start creating db's for apps I'm writing but am leery of going ahead with the install with all that other sql server installs already there.so finally the question, phew, should I just be able to install the sql server developer and depend on it to recognize all the other installed programs and work with them for the install???? |
