Ok folks its been more than 30 years since I had to prove how I solved a problem.

My neice needs her (not so smart) uncle's help, so now I turn to my compatriots.

4x -3y = 33 x = -4y - 25

x=3 y=-7

but I need the work.

HELP!!!!!!

O alright

4x-3y=33 where x=-4y-25

So we'll substitute:

4x-3y=33
4(-4y-25)-3y=33
(-16y - 100) - 3y =33
-16y - 3y = 33 + 100
-19y = 133
y = 133/-19
y = -7

So why is negative 7. to do it you simply replace or substitute whatever 'x' is. So x is given as -4y-25. After that you use some multiplication to foil out the answer so you get -16y - 100 - 3y = 33. Because we have variables 'y' mixed with other things we need the other things on one side and the variable on the other side in order to solve it, hence -16y - 3y = 133. After that we just say -19y = 133 and to get y we divide by -19.

Ok now that you have y you can easily solve for x. Y is simply -7. So x becomes:

4x - 3(-7) = 33
4x + 21 = 33
4x = 12
x = 3

Same thing here..we substituted -7 for y and we know solve for x. The main objective is to get the variable on one side and whole numbers on the other. So once you have 4x+21=33 you want to subtract 21 to both sides (from the left and right) to get x by itself. Then you divide by 4 to get x by itself completly.

Final answer x=3 y=-7
