LOL!
haven't even looked at it before... which is weird for me....

i wonder if he passed... he was on track though...
maybe he should have put it all in a different manner.
i did sense however some urgency in his pleas

I think everyone was just brutally honest.

Seriously, if the guy can't do that simple exercise on his own, he should fail the class and flunk out of college.

That would be a good thing. The world has more than enough stupid, lazy developers that can't get the job done.

OK, maybe that's a little brutal.

actually, it should have been a wake up call for him (that he probably made a mistake on choosing his course/class or doesn't have the motivation to pass the subject)

in fairness, the guys gave him more than a nudge at the right direction but he kept insisting on being given the actual syntax - approach of others (not his own approach mind you) or he honestly didn't understand what's posted?

sqlteam feature: homework forum? atleast newbies/students/homework cheaters can share their problems and let each othe solve it. more like an online class brainstorming

yeah I know, there's a newbie forum but posters kept misinterpreting newbie=let sqlteam do the work for you thingie and we'll just copy and paste the solution (or run the query perhaps? )

This guy actually emailed me directly and told me it was not homework, but rather a take home from a job interview. He continued to tell me "I am more of a developer than a dba. It is very important that I get this job."

Yikes!

I hope you didn't help him. Or at least I hope he isn't getting a job where I work; we have more than enough dead-weight developers.

No, I didnt respond to those emails. Im surprised they gave him a test to take home... never heard of that before. When I interview others I ask them to code up on the whiteboard right then.

We had a booth at a local job fair where we had 'applicants' writing some code on laptops; one prospective 'employee' was using his cell phone to copy some code from a web page, and he presented it to us as his own work and proud of it. He went so far as to inquire about how much we were going pay him and what company perks there were.

All I wanted to know from him was why he was submitting PASCAL code for a DBA job.
True story!
