Anyone ever set up a local group?

Any advice?

My Company wants to Set one up.....my boss is looking in my direction...

"So, How many shots do you want with that reservation?"

I haven't but I've talked to a number of PASS chapter leaders who have. If you know the people who run your local PASS chapter, and/or ran your latest SQL Saturday, you might want to just work with them. No sense reinventing the wheel unless you don't like their group.

PASS has some info on their chapters here: http://www.sqlpass.org/PASSChapters.aspx

I can't find much about setting up a local group, but if you contact Douglas he can definitely give you good information (I know him fairly well, he was chapter leader in Atlanta for a number of years, and he's seriously dedicated to the community)

If you're not too thrilled with PASS, and don't want to go it alone, you should check out SQL People: http://sqlpeople.net/about.aspx

It's a recent community started by Andy Leonard, but he is an old pro at SQL Server and community building and a great guy to know. He is generous with everyone and would probably welcome a new user group.

Do you really need a new user group? Isn't the meeting spot for the NJ SQL Server User Group fairly close to you?

I gthink the new boss wants something in-house...which I would flly expect to leverage the other group

The NYC one looks pretty well put together and supported by M$

I think he wants to lead an overall DBUG

DB2 (z/OS & udb)
SLServer
Oracle
etc

so one governing body, and separate dug's for each...maybe 1 "news letter"...

Don't know

What ever makes him happy and makes him look good
