I would kill to see Linchi Shea present! The NYC user group has access to many of the top level people in the industry as there are so many large companies that use SQL out there.

I went to the local user group a while back where the data architect from MySpace presented their SQL environment. I wanted to see how they handled millions of users, thousands of databases and servers, and many terabytes of data. I think I've gone to one other meeting in all my years as a DBA. They've got to have very interesting topics in order for me to go!

On another note, the local user group asked if I would present at tonight's meeting as their speaker cancelled. I had to decline as I'm just not ready for that! I'm getting ready to present on Saturday for the SQL Saturday #55 free event. I can only handle one!

It's my first one! I think I'm going to have a heart attack. Getting in front of people to do a presentation sounds like as much fun as swimming in shark infested waters.

traces... nice!

oh, I see Denny Cherry is also presenting. the service broker one should be interesting.

few tips:
don't have more than 4 bullet points per slide.
don't read off of slides.
don't type in demos. have code ready to either copy paste or just run

i remember my first time... it was fun

I wish I could see Denny's presentation, but I'm going to need to leave around noon.

I've got all of my queries typed up already. I just need to fine tune the slides. They are a bit jumbled right now. Powerpoint and presentation is not one of my skills!

I plan on using the slides just as a guide. Most of my presentation will be demoing things. I'm even going to show off Bill's ClearTrace tool briefly. The key is showing people what resources I use to troubleshoot a production performance problem. There's SQL Profiler/server-side trace, PerfMon, DMV queries, and ClearTrace.

I'll have all of my stuff available for download soon. I took the day off tomorrow to get ready for Saturday to ensure that I'm well prepared and ready to go.

Happy to look at your slides etc. and comment if that's any use? But I expect you have that input from your peers already.

I've never been bothered by presenting. People often say "I don't know how you can do that" to which my response is "I know this stuff, I couldn't speak on something I don't know inside-out"!! so I hope that helps you too.

I'm sure it will go well.

I remember asking my Father what he had done on a particular day. He said he'd given a talk to a bunch of people he didn't know (which I thought was pretty cool aged not-very-much!).

me: "How did it go?"
him: "I think it went really well, they asked lots of questions"
me: (concerned) "Didn't you describe it very well?"

I'm sure he tried to explain why it was good that they asked lots of questions, and equally that the reason was completely lost on me!

So here's to people asking you lots of questions, to which I'm sure you'll know the answers

After-session questions are good!
It means people do care (either positive or negative) about the subject and (in my case for the presentations I gave on friday 10th) people had several Eureka-moments and wanted to know more.

If someone is interested, here is a link to the agenda for the conference held the 10th of September.
http://pass-scania.se/comconn.html

My presentations were the
0940 (Common mistakes developers make in SQL Server)
and 1340 (Execution Plan basics) sessions.

NetJet charging too much ... must be all the oligarchs lining NetJet's coffers!

Anyway Private Jet is no quicker than Jumbo, other than check-in time. Its not quite like arriving before you took off like the old days!
