BUT ORACLE IS A PAIN IN THE ASS

Just doing the install...the client tools instal 1.3GB

What the hell does it do? Make Beer?

I've only been using it for 6 months but I would tend to agree with both your assessments, ignorance and a royal pain. Ignorance I can address, however.

When I am asked to spec out an Oracle project, I simply estimate the effort required to do the same task in SQL Server, and then double it.
If I have to use Erwin, I add an additional 25%.
What's so hard about that?

Never worked with Oracle, except for one time that I ran a client install that took about 3 hours and installed about 250 MB of files so that I could setup a linked server.

Looks like Oracle is designed to be hard to work with in order to provide full employment for DBA's that know Oracle. Not surprising that people that are skilled with Oracle love it.

Did you know a database is not a database...a database is a schema, and an instance is a database

I have to put my DB2 hat on to think more like Oracle
