My sister in laws husband is coming from Vegas to stay with us for 2-3 weeks (in michigan). He's diabetic so my wife wants me to pick up some healthy stuff from the grocery store. Is anyone in here diabetic who can name off some things that I could purchase so he doesn't feel left out when he arrives here.

Just not sure what is good for these folks to eat vs. what isn't.

vegetarian's diet
fruits
bread for emergency hunger pangs
instead of sugar, either honey or artificial sugar
more potatoes instead of rice (if that is your main staple)

the key is to give him enough sugar...diabetes is often referred to as hunger in the midst of plenty...he has sugar in his body but his body can't absorb it all... so he is somewhat deprived...

hope that helps...

There are two types of diabetes. I would ask him what his diet is ???

Nothing wrong with rice, its white rice that is not recommended. Or in short white/bleached or processed foods. (White bread, white pasta, white sugar etc)

Fruits are good, as long as they are not too ripe. If not the nutrients are converted to sugars.

I would never touch artificial sugars or sweetners.

JHermiz, I asked a couple friends of mine who are diabetic, but they don't feel like posting here. Seems they have had bad experiences with this site, and I did not want to go into too much detail. They gave me these as possible resources for you:
