Well this is funny...Just noticed this too.

I always find myself doing a specific search on some sort of programming issue and notice that stupid experts exchange site.

Well clicking on it is no help..they fade their answers and to get the answers you need to sign up for a fee!!! What a bunch of crap...

But I clicked on "Cached" in google when one of these links came up for experts exchange and everytihng is displayed correctly. Nothing is hidden!!! Not sure if anyone else noticed that before but that is just funny.

Pay for the service or just click "Cached" under the link in google and you're in experts exchange. And let me tell you, those answers aren't always worth the money.

It ain't failed. It is built on suckers though. Somehow they sell what is prolific and available for free elsewhere.

I doubt google has hacked the site. I'll bet they expose their pages to google to attract traffic.

I seem to recall someone on dbforums (R937) saying that if you turn off java script (or some such simple fix) it bypasses the ExpertsExchange verification check.

It is possible to sign up as an expert for which there is no fee. That's how I've been able to read threads there.

I do personally perceive there is a quality of expertise there that is not always so evident in other free forums. Also the experts *have* to help you because you're paying. Time wasters and idiots are also far less evident.

In the open communities there's more onus on you to post your question in a good way to get help from the genuine guru's that are there. The same qaulity of help exists but it's harder work to get it. You're also expected to put back in what you get out of course. Idiots and time wasters unfortunately also abound there.

It's swings and roundabouts really.

My personal opinion is that the open community is the preferrable model. Like I said it's horses for courses.

On the other hand, at EE you compete for points by answering the OPs question. Here (and other forums) the question will be challenged if respondents think there may be better ways or the question goes against best practice. Over at EE straight answers are often provided for the points - engaging in dialogue that might not result in quite what the OP wanted initially is far less common.

By "Google Law" if you want your pages to appear on searches; the text found on your page MUST be visible to all viewers... Even if it's not immediately obvious.
