First of all, you can't install sql2k5 enterprise edition on win xp.

what alerting do you have in mind?

Primarily failed jobs, trans-logs filling up, disk space etc. I meant the Enterprise version of XP of course.

you still don't need outlook for that. use database mail that is vastly improved in ss2k5.
there's no such thing as Enterprise XP that i know of.
