Well on July 22nd till the 26th Im off to Dallas for some training.

Ill be in the MicroTek building and staying directly in the hilton, they say the microtek facility is right inside somewhere...

So what are some great things to do down in hickville :) ? Anything close to this area ? Places to see / places to shop / things and places to eat at ?

Finally, (and wheres Tara on this one)...Im headed to San Mateo near San Fransisco (I know I spelled that wrong) area on August 26th until Sept 1 ... Ill be at the marriot in San mateo. What great things are there to see around this area ? I want to see the golden gate bridge...Im just not too great with directions...hopefully I dont get lost just searching for the bridge :)...If I do find it is there stops around there where we can take pics and look around ?

What about coming back from the Bridge to San Mateo Marriot...is that a breeze ? What else is there to see / where to shop / what to do in San Fran?

One thing I forgot to ask is I noticed there are some toll roads in both dallas area and san fran area. Does anyone know if these cities use the IPASS system like chicago? If so I can bring my ipass device with me ....

Thanks folks!

If you have time for a drive, head west from San Mateo over to Half-Moon Bay on the coast and then cruise south on the Pacific Coast Highway. It is one of the most beautiful drives in the world.

1. Golden Gate Bridge, You can park the car at the end of the bridge there is a parking lot and take a walk on the bridge
2. Fishermans Wharf, You can take a cruise here to go around Alcatraz, I think 1 specific cruise takes you inside Alcatraz.

Let me see If I can come up with something else.

Thanks

They also have some tour buses going around that cover pretty much everything in the town in a few hours. The bus stops at the foot of the bridge where they let you off for a few minutes to take pictures. The tour covers good stuff for the money - fishermans wharf, GG bridge, the lombardt street (the crooked one)..and few others..

I live in San Diego and have barely ventured out. I've never been to northern California except to go to Mammoth Mountain for snowboarding. San Francisco area is quite a few hours away in driving time. I believe 6-8.

If you headed south quite a bit, then I could help you with what we have available. The weather is beautiful right now down here. I keep hearing about all of this bad weather in the west, but it certainly is not hitting San Diego.

Wow thanks folks...I printed the thread out...
Now I need the texas or specifically the dallas folks to give me some ideas for my trip to tx.

Tara I was in san diego last year and let me tell you I LOVE your guys' beaches, the weather, and the people :). After visiting san diego I actually thought about moving out there late last year...still have those thoughts. I had fun just goign to the beach and walking on the shoreline.

Thanks again folks.

Thats the typical impression visitors get..
Once you move down here..its a whole different story..

Not sure about San Diego, but orange county area is ridiculuously priced if you want to buy a house. I hear San Diego is a little better compared to anywhere in the state 30 mi North of it.

San Diego is the second worst place to buy a house in CA. The first is the San Francisco area. I'm not sure where Orange County ranks, but it's lower than second.

We recently sold our house and moved into an apartment. We've got a short-term lease in hopes of finding suitable housing soon. When we sold our house, the buyer wanted a 30-day escrow, so we had to get out quick. And boy are we glad that we did since the market has gone even lower since we sold. Now we've just got to find the right house and the right time to buy.

I figure if you are going from one house to the next, in the same market, it doesn't matter too much when you buy/sell. as long as you aren't trading up too far - it's a much bigger risk to buy near the top of the market as that's where much of the volatility is.

Things I liked doing in SF: Visit Golden Gate Park, dinner at the Cliff House in the evening, Fisherman's Wharf even though it's kind of commercialized, view the sunset from the top of the Berkeley Hills, if you catch it right the sun goes down between the towers on the Golden Gate, circumnavigate the entire bay (if you don't mind traffic), catch a ball game at Candlestick (or whatever it's called now), drive down Lombard St., climb Coit Tower, ride a cable car (except they are so touristy now it's not at all like it used to be), dinner in Chinatown, go to a fancy restaurant on Nob Hill, cross all the bridges in the bay one after another, cruise Napa Valley vinyards if you have the time.

Darn, your spellchecker puked again, that would be "brakes"

And no, I don't recall advising a brakeless descent :) But the road is a fun couple of minutes.
