I always feel like sparking a reefer up when listening to enigma that would do no good , if I listened to radiohead I would start to get upset and want to kick something, but I havent even heard of these guys (thievery corp, silversun pickups, black keys ) so will give them a try.

Listening to some Bonnie Prince Billy at the moment I think the country and western seems to put me in a information absorbing state of mind.

for thievery corporation I would check out "Sounds from the thievery hi-fi". for black keys check out "rubber factory" or "thickfreakness". I think silversun pickups only have one album at this point.

thievery is kinda mellow, the black keys kind rock and silversun is somewhere inbetween.

thanks ec will get back to you with my thoughts on yours, I must admit though I tend to prefer the old Meat Puppets, Stone temple Pilots sounds, Meat Puppets have just released a new album with former bass guitarist Cris Kirkwood who was nearly on deaths door a couple of years ago and they still go off.

Tangential comment:

We've put a Sonos system throughout the house (influenced by reading http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2006/11/10.html). Not a cheap solution - but made more affordable, for me in the UK at least, by directly importing from the USA now that the dollar has weakened to £1 = $2.

Highly recommended.

that sounds brilliant Kristen I just bought a Toshiba Quosmio Laptop that comes with a built in sub woofer for this exact reason to get more sound out of my laptop but still it doesnt compare to anything like this, I wish I had known about this before making my Quosmio purchase that is running xp Media centre and is having issues with the sound drivers when I run sql2005 on it, I now runall my sql stuff from a Windows server 2003 virtual machine to get round this problem. Have a good weekend everyone.

One person's "positive affect on the mind" music is another person's "please shoot me now" music.
