Vladimir Nabokov (April 22, 1899 - July 2, 1977), Russian novelist.

On the first moon landing

"Oh, 'impressed' is not the right word! Treading the soil of the moon gives one, I imagine (or rather my projected self imagines), the most remarkable romantic thrill ever experienced in the history of discovery. Of course, I rented a television set to watch every moment of their marvelous adventure. That gentle little minuet that despite their awkward suits the two men danced with such grace to the tune of lunar gravity was a lovely sight. It was also a moment when a flag means to one more than a flag usually does. I am puzzled and pained by the fact that the English weeklies ignored the absolutely overwhelming excitement of the adventure, the strange sensual exhilaration of palpating those precious pebbles, of seeing our marbled globe in the black sky, of feeling along one's spine the shiver and wonder of it. After all, Englishmen should understand that thrill, they who have been the greatest, the purest explorers. Why then drag in such irrelevant matters as wasted dollars and power politics?"

Nabokov:
quote:
"My loathings are simple: stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music."

Totally agree!

In short,
seems today I parted with HER for good.
Yesterday I had a phone conversation with her mother.
<a funny fam LOL>
Then I sent a lot of sms messages to her (to "my love").
This morning, being at work, I called up HER.
She said: after your abusive words I don't want see & hear you anymore!

My last SMS message to her was:

You are just a swine born for fucking; I've mistaken in you; sorry

PS
And sorry for my English. Votka + Brusnika is a terriblr thing.

Congratulations! Sounds like you are now (able to get lost - Kafka). Many opportunities await!

As (who was it? Neil Sedaka?) said, "breaking up is hard to do". You probably could have done without the swine comment. I'm afraid to ask what you said to HER mother...Drink a bunch of water and go to bed

>I'm afraid to ask what you said to HER mother...

I'm happy I can recall only 50% of what I said to her

>You probably could have done without the swine comment.

But in essence it's bitter truth

In one of my sms's I even demanded (jokingly of course) from her to pay an indemnity

Otherwise known as the lingonberry if you shop at IKEA.

Psychedelic, really.
Today, on my path to home, I was in a bus, sipping from a bottle of beer.
Suddenly, one man (abt. 35 y.o.; and obviously drunken) approached me
and said: don't you know that from the 1st July drinking even beer in public
places is forbidden? The fine = 240000 roubles = ~ $100.
(hmm... I never knew it )

Then he (a dental mechanic, btw) proposed me to buy a bottle of 250 g of votka.
OK, -- I said.
We bought it (and a pack of crab sticks). We drank our first 30 g of votka...
then an incredible thing occured: I started to teach him, like this:

how can you, a married man, with 2 children, drink this votka somewhere out
of your home? How can you dare to show your drunken mug before your children and
your wife? If you want to drink -- drink with your wife, but not with some nice guys at work.
And so on.

And, just imagine, my "preach" frightened him to the guts! He ran to the nearest bus stop,
leaving me with the bottle and the crab sticks!

why not mladen? Five beers after work, then a bottle of votka. Quite an usual scheme.
PS
Today I finished reading (at work ) Stephen King's "Library policeman".
Not much impressed but but his continuous theme of self-sacrifice and deeds of kindness of
human beings is always very touching and empatic for me.

This is a rustic recipe for Wolf's Paw (vodka + lingonberry(whatever) juice)
Quite good actually.

Pour a glass of vodka
Quickly dip a lingonberry in the vodka (so that the taste does not get too fruity)
Enjoy

The trick to NOT drink beer after work is to forget about it (the beer).
Abracadabra.

About the preaching,
You know when you start to drink vodka and beer with strangers, that's when you are in trouble, I'd say !!!
