We just went through a huge domain change for our entire exchange
mail as well as log in domains (Went from the old NT4 system).
This has been nothing but a nightmare. Anyone else ever have to do that!!! We even changed our email extension and boy did that cause a lot of chaos.

Yeah, never seems to go smoothly when the IT boys do it here either.

We moved between Server1 and Server2, both being Small Business Server. That was a nightmare too - mostly because of the associated Domain move ...

The IT is outsourced to people who handle much bigger clients, so its not like a couple of my lads doing it with no other experiences either :-(

Sympathies
"it's just a name right...Right!..." No accession.
Just hope you got it spelled correctly. hehe

"it's definitely useless and maybe harmful".

Were your problems with SQL Mail, desktop mail, or both?

We went through a change to move our email to a different exchange server on a different domain, but our logon domain has not changed yet. Our email addresses also changed.

The change to the desktop mail went OK, just mainly a matter of notifying people about our new email addresses.

We had some issues with SQL Mail for a few weeks that delayed the implementation. We were able to continue using the prior setup until it was resolved. It was finally determined to be a router problem. That's bad news in our place, because anytime you need help from the network guys, it's always a lesson in frustration. There seems to be no problem so urgent that it can't wait for a day or two or a few weeks or...

Mainly both, a lot of smtp problems though, changing some addressing. A complete change from an NT4 domain is a big nightmare. We've been working on the problems since friday, it is now monday 5pm...it felt like I've been working for 24 hours! I cant say we are finished, still a lot of problems, including changing the way domain users log into Citrix! :(.

One of our old systems...ewww...was hardcoded, with email addresses so a lot of changing there. Luckily all the new systems were built pretty well so that names were not inserted into the application code :). The db changes were minor just a few update statements and mingling around with the replace function.

We'll see what happens tomorrow, each day is something new...this stuff really trickles..kinda like piss!

it took the entire network team to migrate 1500 workstations to the new domain --not my problem

as for the sql servers, I made sure that everything was planned out and put on extra effort to bully the tech guys to stick with the plan before they made the change (i think their previous plan was extended to 2 more weeks because of me ha ha ha)

it went smoothly, [smug] as far as the servers are concerned [/smug]
